Mona Geraldine Barrett passed away at Orange Coast Memorial Hospital on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, following a short illness. She was 88. Mona was born on March 22, 1926 in McCurtain, OK to Jessey James and Pearly Mae Gammel. She had two older brothers Edward and Waldrow, both deceased, and is survived by two younger sisters Vonnie Hatfield and Lennie Sobanja.

Thomas Joseph Clemmons departed this life on October 19, 2014, at Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa Valley, California.
Thomas Joseph Clemmons (Tom) celebrated 59 years of life. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Paul Catholic Church, Lucerne Valley, California.
Burial will be private.
Frances “Frankie” Mount, 91, of Lucerne Valley went to be with her Lord and Saviour on June 16, 2014. Frankie was born in Olney, Illinois on January 25, 1923 to John B. Lawrence Doan and Forence Herrin Doan.
Frankie participated in the war effort by working in a defense plant as a “Rose the Riveter” on the P-38 Lightening. She saved her earnings to attend business school to advance her lifelong dream of being a secretary.
Clarence William Muirhead (Sonny to family), 81, passed away March 24, 2014 at Atria Senior Living in Lafayette, CA.
He was born in San Diego, CA on May 16, 1932 to Clarence and Mary Muirhead, residents of Coronado, CA. Clarence graduated from Coronado High School. On his path towards graduation from San Diego State University (SDSU) he learned about “business machines”, those early computers, and worked for National Cash Register (NCR), as well as a “Mom and Pop” Business Machines company.
Steve F. McOwen, 57, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2014.
He was a longtime resident of the High Desert.
He loved trains, prospecting, 1880 re-enactments, and traveling. Steve also served in the U.S. Air Force.
He is survived by his wife, Florence, of Apple Valley; 5 children, Daniel McOwen of Palmdale, Christopher McOwen of North Carolina, Julene Howard of Las Vegas, Jeremiah McOwen of North Carolina, and Benjamin Daul of Yucaipa; 14 grandchildren; mother, Valerie Hardison of Nevada and sister, Michele Calkins of Nevada.
Chirisse “Reecie” Marie Fouts passed away on March 2, 2014 in Peoria, Illinois.
Born on October 10, 1985 in Dallas, Texas, she lived in Apple Valley, Calif. and Lucerne Valley, Calif.
Chirisse attended Lucerne Valley High School and Barstow Community College and worked as a nursing assistant.
She is survived by her mother Lisa Fouts, father Andrew Peers, sister Acacia Laine Peers, grandmother Carol Ann Stroyeds, grandfather Phillip Lloyd Fouts, uncle Lloyd Bradley Fouts, aunt Nora Fouts and cousins Kersten Fouts, Marco Fouts and Drake Fouts.
Viletta Partin, 78, of Apple Valley, Calif., passed away Thursday, November 14, 2013.
The daughter of Gerald A. True and Lillie (Shisler) True, Viletta Partin was born on June 26, 1935. She graduated from Novinger High School in 1953. She married Garold Partin. They had two children, Ladd Partin and Teresa Hartman, both who preceded her in death along with her parents.
Viletta is survived by her grandchildren John Bothwell of Rogersville, MO and Manda Hartman and one great-grandchild Damien Hartman, both of Butte, Montana and an uncle, Eldon Shisler of Illinois.
Roy Butcher of Lucerne Valley passed away on November 2, 2013 at the age of 70.
Born in Bethany, OK on Oct. 31, 1943, Butcher moved to Lucerne Valley 20 years ago.
He loved to stop and chat with friends and acquaintances in the Market. He also had a lifelong interest in chickens and was well-read on the topic of poultry.
A carwash fundraiser will help pay for the funeral services of local resident Mike “Bear” Hernandez, who recently passed away.
The fundraiser will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2 and Thursday, Oct. 3.
Also an account to help with expenses is being set up under the name, “Friends of Mike ‘Bear’ Hernandez.”
Hernandez was a member of Bikers for Christ and a beloved member of the community, said Lucerne Valley resident Pam Hardwick.
William “Bill” DeWitt was born on Dec. 7, 1961 in Great Lakes, Ill. and graduated to Heaven on May 23, 2013 in his home with his wife at his side, due to complications from a brain injury.
Bill and his family moved to Lucerne Valley from Spring, Texas in 2002. He was in construction for 20 years until he was injured during an attempted carjacking on August 25, 2004. This took a big toll on the family, but Bill was determined to overcome any obstacle.
