Hwy. 18/Trade Post work almost finished

LUCERNE VALLEY • Good news for commuters and local business owners: The road work on Highway 18 is soon coming to an end.

A San Bernardino County project adding a turn lane at the intersection of Highway 18 and Trade Post Road dragged on for more than a month. The work slowed traffic in the middle of town, and local business owners said their sales were hurt by a perceived lack of access to their parking lots.

Lucerne Valley Little League season may be called off

The youth of Lucerne Valley may not be able to play local Little League baseball this year.

With the season approaching and many other leagues already holding sign-ups, Lucerne Valley Little League is nowhere to be found.

Officials at Community Service Area 29 Parks and Recreation said they had not heard anything from local Little League officials about the use of Pioneer Park for try-outs or games, and no sign-up notices have been released.

Budweiser reveals scenes from ad shot in L.V.

A sneak peak of the Budweiser advertisement shot partly Lucerne Valley debuted on national television this past weekend.

Scenes prominently showing the Cougar Buttes area were shown, and the end of the ad featured a title stating: “To be continued, February 6, 2011.”

Feb. 6 is Super Bowl Sunday. The ad aired during the NFL conference championship coverage on Sunday. The images shown here were captured from a video screen.

The scenes were shot about a week before Christmas.

Man airlifted in critical condition after crash

CHP: Alcohol appears to have been a factor

A Lucerne Valley man was airlifted to Loma Linda Medical Center in critical condition after a traffic collision on Old Woman Springs road on Jan. 18.

Richard Quinon, 48, of Lucerne Valley, was driving a Dodge Neon at an unknown rate of speed and struck a Chevy Tahoe from behind at around 9:50 p.m., California Highway Patrol officials said.

L.V. High School wrestlers still going strong

The Lucerne Valley High School wrestling team continued a successful season with solid showings at two tournaments in the past two weeks.

On Jan. 8, LVHS traveled to West Covina for South Hills High School’s 10-way meet. Competing against much bigger schools than they were accustomed to, the Mustangs finished eighth out of 10 teams.

Isaac Aguilar (112 pounds) and 215-pounder Jeremy Riley each went 5-0 on the day, while Joshua Cruz (152 pounds) and Tyler Beans (160) each had a 4-1 record.

Car collides with UPS truck

LUCERNE VALLEY • At least one person was injured when a small car was involved in an accident with a UPS truck on Highway 18 near El Dorado on Jan. 4.

The car apparently hit the truck sometime around 12:45 p.m. The extent of the person’s injury was not known, and the California Highway Patrol was still investigating the incident.

Alcohol was not suspected to be a factor, a CHP official said.
