The Lucerne Valley High School boys basketball team finished up a long road trip with a winning record and was set to return home this week.
The Mustangs entered this week’s games with an 8-4 overall record, 3-1 in the Agape League.
Tuesday’s game against Excelsior was the first of five straight home games for the Mustangs. (The game was played after this week’s paper went to press.) Their next game is Friday at 7:30 p.m. against Hesperia Christian at LVHS’ Sgt. Brian L. Walker gym.
Head coach Matthew Stratton said the Mustangs’ 67-43 victory over Apple Valley Christian last week was “one of our most complete team performances of the season.”
Stratton said the team shot 46 percent from the field and had 25 steals.
Lonye Logan scored 24 points, Daniel Stratton added 18 points and Robert Rodriguez scored 10. Daniel Stratton dished out nine assists as well. Matthew Stratton said Gavin White was “an absolute game changer” on defense with nine rebounds, six steals and two blocked shots.
“He really set the tone for our defensive energy,” the coach said.
Earlier this month LVHS also posted victories over league foes Victor Valley Christian and Hesperia Christian.
