LUCERNE VALLEY • A 15-year-old girl who ran away from home in dangerously cold temperatures Monday night returned home the next day.
Pam Hardwick said her granddaughter Bretina M. Romero ran away from home in thin clothing at about 4 p.m. Monday in the area of Morningside Road and Custer Avenue. Hardwick was unable to find Romero as temperatures dipped well below freezing.
Shortly after noon on Tuesday, Hardwick said she received a call from Romero, who wouldn't say where she was but said she was OK. With the help of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, Romero returned home safely later the same day.
