McGinnis, White named to all-star roster

Lucerne Valley seniors Brett McGinnis and Gavin White were among Wednesday’s selections for the 2013 High Desert All-Star Football Game.

White and McGinnis helped lead the Mustangs to their first playoff appearance since 2006. The game is for seniors only.

There have been some notable changes to the all-star game this year. The game will be played at the new at Adelanto High School on Saturday, Jan. 19 — three months earlier than in previous years.

The North team will be coached by Adelanto head coach Jayson Hughes and will consist of players from Barstow, Granite Hills, Silverado, Lucerne Valley, Boron, Desert, Riverside Prep, Silver Valley and Yucca Valley. Burroughs and Victor Valley chose not to participate.

The South team will be coached by Oak Hills head coach Robert Kistner and will consist of players from Apple Valley, Oak Hills, Serrano, Sultana, Big Bear, Excelsior, Littlerock and Victor Valley Christian. Hesperia elected not to participate.
The North roster features McGinnis and White along with Austin Crank, James Noble III, Kyle Pittman, Marquis Jones, Sultan Hamdan, Tracy Venable (Barstow); Austin Russell, Austyn Fink, Domingo Gutierrez, Drake Job, Troy Caillier (Boron); Anthony Vigilante, Brandon Valdez, Grayson Steele, Kris Washington, Myquan Turner (Desert); Brandon Olson, Derrick Patterson, Elijah James, Jordan Wright, Julian Jones, Stanley Nicholson (Granite Hills); Kody Sanchez, Russell Denny, Tyler Stewart, Will Smith (Riverside Prep); Anthony Aguilera, Ashton Thrash, Devon Thrash, Illi Monroe, Jordan Gibson, Matt Williams, Myron Sykes (Silver Valley); Celester Asuega, DeJuan Gary, Landon Coleman, Marcus Moore, Ryan Silveria, William Fifita (Silverado); Ben Hetz, Cody McBride, Daniel Currier, and Forrest Crowley (Yucca Valley).
