A suspect was caught in the act of burglarizing a Lucerne Valley home before fleeing the scene with a Lexus sedan and other stolen items last week, sheriff’s documents show. The car was later recovered.

On Nov. 25 at 3:26 a.m., a man reported that he was awoken by a loud bang at his residence in the 35000 area of Foothill Road.

The house’s alarm went off, then the victim saw a man with a flashlight standing in his bedroom doorway. The suspect fled out the front door, and the victim waited in his living room with a shotgun until a deputy arrived six minutes after the call.

The suspect(s) had apparently ransacked outbuildings on the property, making off with a flat-screen television, a rifle and the Lexus.

The car was found abandoned the next morning in an open field near the home. There was minor damage to the underside of the vehicle. A deputy examined the scene for possible evidence and filed a report.
