Honors for LVHS volleyball players

FROM STAFF REPORTS

Lucerne Valley High School volleyball players Courtney Kelly and Nicole Colangelo received special honors last week.

Kelly and Colangelo played in the High Desert Senior All-Star Game on Friday at Silverado High School.

Kelly was selected as the South Team’s “All-Team” selection.

The Agape League released its All-League Selections, and Colangelo was voted first-team All League by the Agape League coaches. She led the Agape League in aces and serving percentage with a .955 average.

“I’m incredibly proud of both of them,” coach Steve Colangelo wrote in an e-mail. “They really represented our school well at the All-Star game. Not too many other schools can boast of having an All-League player and the South Team’s tournament game player of the game on the same squad.

“They have certainly earned the respect of the High Desert volleyball community. Courtney and Nicole proved on Friday they deserve to be counted as some of the best players in the High Desert.”

Other standout players in the league were Angela Casillas, who was second in the league blocks, averaging .9 blocks per game. Mayra Mondragon took fifth place in digs per game, averaging 3.7 digs.
