The fall sports season came to an end for Lucerne Valley High School with the football team’s 62-20 playoff loss to Thacher last Friday.

Lonye Logan caught two touchdown passes from Daniel Stratton while Brett McGinnis scored a rushing TD, but it wasn’t enough as the Mustangs finished out the year with a 5-5 overall record.

“It definitely was a success just getting back into the playoffs,” said Mustangs coach Chris Klinger, whose team reached the postseason for the first time since 2006.

The game was originally scheduled for Saturday but was moved to Friday because of transportation issues and because students would be taking their SAT’s on Saturday.

Lucerne Valley was down 34-6 at halftime and made the score 42-20 in the third quarter before Thacher pulled away.

With Stratton, Logan and all of the starting linemen returning next season, Klinger has high hopes for the Mustangs.

“We have a young football team,” Klinger said. “Our line play should be much improved. Our main receiver and quarterback are both returning, and I’m expecting them to be even more successful next year.”

All-Agape League selections will be determined this week and will appear in The Leader when they are released.
