The Lucerne Valley High School girls volleyball team missed the playoff this season, but there were still a few things to be proud of.

For one, the Mustangs swept the season series with four-time defending league champion Victor Valley Christian.

LVHS will also have two representatives in the High Desert Senior All-Star Game at Silverado High School on Nov. 16. Senior team captains Courtney Kelly and Nicole Colangelo will represent the South team in the small schools game at 5:30 p.m.

Kelly led the team in kills while Colangelo led the squad in serve percentage.

Colangelo set a school record for aces in a match with 16 on and another school record for most consecutive serves without an error in a match (20) against Sherman Indian on Sept. 11, according to Steve Colangelo, Nicole’s father and the team’s coach.

Junior Angela Casillas led the team in defensive blocks and senior Mayra Mondragon led the team in digs this season.

“We had some good highlights,” said Colangelo, who completed his third season coaching the team. “Our seniors, when they played well they played very well. When they congealed as a team, they were unstoppable. Really, consistency was the hardest thing.”

Last week, the team honored its nine seniors during senior night: Kelly, Mondragon, Colangelo, Kori Lemoine (a team captain), Reyna Pinedo, Kayla Mortimore, Karissa Gasper, Sarafina Smith and Jessica Martinez.

All-Agape League selections will be determined this week and will be printed in The Leader when the league releases them.
