VICTORVILLE • A Lucerne Valley couple was sentenced to jail time after deputies found boxes and bags of marijuana in their house with their 5-year-old son nearby.
Daniel Richard Lovejoy II, 25, and Kimberly Michelle Arnold, 27, each accepted the prosecution’s plea offer. Lovejoy pleaded guilty to one felony count of possessing marijuana for sale, while Arnold pleaded no contest to one misdemeanor count of willful cruelty to a child.
Based on the plea bargains, Judge Steve Malone sentenced Lovejoy to one year and four months in prison Thursday and Arnold to four-year probation, which includes 180 days in county jail.
San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies received an anonymous tip that the defendants may have been selling marijuana out of their home in the 1000 block of Calle De Paz.
When deputies arrived at the house, they smelled a strong marijuana odor, according to sheriff’s officials.
They searched the home and found marijuana along with paraphernalia consistent with drug sales.
The couple was arrested without incident, while their 5-year-old boy was released into the custody of Child Protective Services.
The defendants were already on probation at the time. Arnold has nine prior arrests for drug and theft charges since 2003 in San Bernardino County, while Lovejoy has more than a dozen charges on his record including growing marijuana, theft, and vehicle violations.
