The Lucerne Valley Unified School District is ringing in the new school year with events at both campuses next week.
On Tuesday, Lucerne Valley Middle/High School will host a Sept. 11 memorial service featuring a raising of the flag and a special service honoring Army Sgt. Brian L. Walker, a graduate of the school who was killed in action in Afghanistan earlier this year.
Firefighters, police and military personnel are expected to be on hand, and the general public is encouraged to attend.
The ceremony will be held during the school day, but a precise time had not been set as of press time on Sunday evening. Call the school at (760) 248-2124 for details.
Lucerne Valley Elementary School will hold its “Picnic in the Park” Back to School Night on Tuesday starting at 5 p.m. LVES will be honoring military members and is asking the community for a name, picture, and years of attendance (if possible) of any military alumni of the elementary school. Email a picture to firstname.lastname@example.org or visit the school to submit photos and information.
The middle/high school will host its own Back to School Night on Thursday, Sept. 13, at 5 p.m.
